The tablet wars are heating up, with Apples current iPad and their up and coming iPad 2 , competitors like samsung, RIM (blackbery) LG , HP/Palm and motorola need to step up to the mark. and boy they are.
lets go to the history of tablets first, in 2001 microsoft Debut'd their tablet , which as heavy, had a resistive touchscreen and a slow proccessor, non-existent RAM it was so slow and ,did i mention that they are really heavy ?. But in 10 long years things have changed so much, and thank the lord hey have. in 2010 Apple introduced its "revolutionary" and "magical" portable computing device , the iPad, with a 9.7inch IPS LCD display for great viewing angles angles and better battery life, it came in 16GB,32GB and 64GB models one with wifi , and the other bringing 3G access. I'm personally not a fan of the iPad, i find its too heavy, the screen is too large to make it truly a portable option and lastly the price , as with all of its products, apple introduced the iPad with its rather "competitive" pricing , starting the WiFi only 16GB iPad for £439.

Samsung : Late in 2010 samsung introduced their android tablet and supposed 'iPad' killer, The samsung Galaxy tab as part of its rather popular galaxy range of devices, its main selling points against apple's famous iPad was the fact it was smaller, lighter and ran a more caapble OS (operating system) which in this case is Near vanilla build of Android 2.2 or Froyo. the specs when the Galaxy tab was released were rather good and very competitive a 1Ghz samsung built ARM Cortex A8 'Hummingbird' processor which is very similar in architexture to apples A4 SOC (System on a chip) a whopping 4000mAh battery, 16GB or 32GB built in storage but with a MicroSD card expansion up to 32GB so effectively you could have up to 64GB of storage bringing it on par with apples highest capacity ipad. a 1024x600 pixel 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display. 512MB or RAM and ROM, a 3.2 MP erar facing auto-focus camera with standard def video and a 1.3MP front camera for video telephony. and as with the iPad there is room for a 3G SIM card, which is always good for portability.
Reasearch in motion (Blackberry) : The Blackberry playbook is, is i think the most interesting tablet in the world at this momnt in time, not only is it RIM's first tablet, but its a number of firsts this one here , it is the first to run RIM's new tabletOS QNX (its even got a cool name), it was officially the first tablet to run a dual core ARM Cortex A9 proccessor each clocked in at 1Ghz thereby giving you 2Ghz worth of grunt, like the XOOM, but one place where this best all of those other Tablets is with its dual camera's , and strangely blackberry's arent known for having the best camera's, but here they win without a vote , with a 5MP rear camera and a 3MP front facing camera, not only does the playbook beat the galaxy tab in video capture resolution, it even beats the XOOM and almost anything except fully fledged camcoders , because this is the first comercially available product thats shoots in Full HD 1080p video ! that is astounding, now back onto QNX, Mike laziridis of RIM said "We're not trying to dumb down the internet for a mobile device. What we've done is bring up mobile devices to the level of desktop computers" which is exactly what they have done, wioth TRUE multitasking like HP/palms WebOS Does it , not apple's "multi-tasking"the cards stay open whilst you open another one or switch to another one , so if you are playong a HD video (yes it plays full HD as well as shooting it) and go to BBM it stays open , whih is handy if your watching a video on youtube and need to check your e-mailed with our brided Blackberry device.
LG : LG have been said to be manufacturing many tablets latel running all diffeent OS's there are Windows 7 tablets, android tablets, but im focusing mainly here on the LG G Slate for T-mobile USA, unfortunatly we know very little bout the LG G slate , apart from is runs ndroid 3.0 'Honeycomb' . has Hardware acceleration lurking in there somewhere because it can run Google maps in 3D, more coming up soon.
HP/Palm : There is no concrete evidence that HP/palm is eve making a tablet computer, but ever since WebOS was announced nearly 3 years ago now people have beenhoping and wishing, like the Verizon wireless iphone in america or the nexus S , this was the mythical tech unocrn, the yeti, sasquatch and more all rolled into one, but yesterday renderings of the so called 'palmpad' emerged ,and boy it's a beauty, well i sat it , there are two purportedly WebOS totting tablets around the 9-inch topaz tablet and the 7-inch opal, they both run a modified version of palm's (now HP/Palms) WebOS platform with tablet specific features like Touch-to-share which is like an intergrated version of the application Bump. you would touc your WebOS device with your opal or topaz and transfer songs, a web page you were looking at etc. but another cool feature which is if you re getting a call on Your Pre or Pixi and are on your tablet ,you can pick up the call on your tablet then and there. and one of the best features for a music lover like myself, the Tablets will paarently use Monster beats audio , seeing as monster is owned by HP. Built-in touchstone which is palms inductive charging system. this is all that we have on the tablet at this current moment in time but palm is holding an event Febuary 9th so you never know.

Motorola mobility: At CES 2011 Motorola mobility announced what we had all been waiting for, the motorola XOOM (pronounced zoom) as if the name wasnt cool enough the specs are even more impressive, a Dual-core Nvidia TEGRA2 proccessor each core clocked in at 1Ghz each to pull tyhe total power to basically 2Ghz , its the first product that is going to be released with Android 3.0 or 'honeycomb' as it has become known as, it has a multi-touch capable capacitivescreen with a resolution of 1280x800, 32GB of on-board storage,other cool features a 2MP front facing camera for video calling woth android 3.0's new Gtalk app which supports video calls or third party apps like fring/tango and more, a 5MP rear camera capable of shooting 720p HD video, it has all the basic features you would expect a tablet computer to have, like ambient light sensors proximity sensors and compasses etc, but it also adds one more, a barometer. last cool feature , 3D graphics acceleration.
