As most of you guys know, i'm a massive phone nerd, i love phones and always have, so when i first heard about nokia developing its own phone OS with intel i got really excited, and when we got leaks of what the device might look like back in august of '10 i got even more excited, an aluminium unibody construction, a slider/pop tilt screen a 4 inch WVGA (800x480) or a 4 inch qHD (960x540) screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, a gigabyte of RAM and a 1Ghz processor ,sadly some of those dreams were dashed today when the real Nokia N9 was announced, and boy what a beast it is.
the specs of this phone are making nokia fans jump with joy as the finnish company releases a phone that is competitive in this day and age a phone with a 3.9 inch AMOLED with an FWVGA resolution (854x480) which is a bit higher than normal WVGA (800x480) covered with a fine sheet of convexed gorilla glass which is also covered with an anti-glare and anti-smudge coating for that constant pristine look also there isnt an air gap , you know the distance between the glass and the touchscreen, yeah that doesnt exist here , its like the UI was painted onto the glass, there is not physical switches and the only ywo buttons on the entire device is the power button and the volume rocker,all this is wrapped up in a polycarbonate shell, not aluminium unibody, but this will take tougher hits and will last longer, it has 16GB or 64GB (strangely no 32GB variant) with a full gigabyte of RAM, OMAP3630 1 Ghz processor handles the grunt while a power VR SGX530 graphics card handles that gorgeous UI and makes sure everything runs smoothly and lag free, radio wise the is a quadband GSM antenna ,a pentaband WCDMA radio,, it has bluetooth 2.1 with EDR support (and most probably A2DP), NFC , GPS, WiFi A/B/G/N, it has a 3.5mm audio jack,sadly there is no MicroSD though if you have more than 64GB of stuff you dont need a phone you need a portable harddrive,this phone is also the first (And probably last) to Run the love child of nokia's maemo and intel's moblin OS's. MeeGo, specifically version 1.2 with nokia's "harmattan" skin on top, there is a sumptuous 8MP autofocus (not EDoF thank god) Wide-angled camera, with 720p 30FPS HD video recording with a secondary font facing camera and that rear camera goes along with the aspect ratio of the screen and shoots video in 16:9 real widescreen.At it's thickest point the N9 is 12mm thin and at it's thinnest it is 7.1mm at the top and bottom, it weighs 135g, strangely for nokia, they have opted to use a microSIM like the one used in the iPhone 4, i'm not sure why, its not like the phone wasnt long enough to put a full sized SIM card in place, and like on recent nokia's the SIM lies in a tray that you pull out from the top of the device.it supports a multitude of audio formats like MP3,AAC,AAC+,eAAC+,WMA,FLAC and more and interestingly for a device of this size only a 1450mAh battery, but hey its not like nokia is known for terrible battery life i mean the N8 have tremendous battery so maybe MeeGo is a sipper not a guzzler.
so to me guys this phone sounds awesome ,Nokia is biling the phone as the first all-touch phone,one that doesnt need any buttons tofunction, which is A)true and B)awesome ,i mean you can unlock the screen y doubble tapping or pressing the power button, then you slide (like you do everywhere in the OS) to get anywhere you like , and from the Demo's it desnt look like its struggling with "Only" a single core 1Ghz processor, maybe this like WP7 has great system management which is awesome,i know some people would like to see this hardware with WP7, the truth in my eyes, i hope they dont i hope they keep this exclusivity and give microsoft something else, so intel can go "hey, look what your missing :) ".
