Ciao Android, i have a new WebOS shaped baby now

 

yes you read correctly , i am getting rid of my android device, a orange san Francisco (ZTE Blade) because i have brought a Palm Pre, not a plus, a 2 and no i haven't got an early sneak preview of the pre 3, i have brought myself a 2009 palm pre,why you might ask, well as strange as it may seem , i liked the chrome ball shaped key in the centre, i prefer the keyboard of the original to that of the pre plus,i never really use the camera so the poor quality wont bother me, but the major reason i went with an original (aside from the point that they are dirt cheap) is how “Hackable” there is reports and videos showing the original pre overclocked to 1.2GHz (double the stock speed) and running flawlessly, there is videos showing that an 800MHz pre with WebOS 1.4.5 thrashing a 1GHz WebOS 2.0 pre 2.

Also , apart from my San Francisco breaking (the OLED panel and the digitizer both broke) which was hardly financially viable (£25 for digitizer and £30 for OLED, phone only cost be £100) i started to grow ever so slightly tired of android, just little things like the very non-visual multi-tasking interface, boring animations (unless your running custom firmware like Cyanogen Mod) and this is my device specific, no hardware keyboard, i like the little ripple you get when you touch the screen on WebOS the way you manage multi-tasking and the way you get rid of apps.

there are some things that I'm going to need to get used to in WebOS, like the limited app selection, the gestures and just, well everything about WebOS that you cant learn from watching YouTube video’s, but i am looking forward to it, look forward to an unboxing of my pre in the coming days, and I'm most certainly going to overclock it, and if i have the balls,i might even try to shoehorn WebOS 2.1 onto it, which is possible but might very well result in me having a brand new paperweight.

Why I'm not a fan of the OnePlus 2

Photo credit from GSMArena To those that Follow me on twitter it's no surprise to you that I was very underwhelmed with the OnePlus 2, but it's hard to explain why in 140 Characters, so here I'm going to expand a bit more on the things I’m not a fan of and why. First up is the USB-C Port. Now as we already know, USB-C the Port isn’t the same as USB-C W/USB3.1, the Damn USB-C, it's there,but not quite there. latter is the all singing all dancing version of USB-C, nothing has this yet (the closest we have so far is the new MacBook and Chromebook Pixel, that use most of this, except at USB3 speeds, or what has retroactively been called, USB3.1 Gen1). The OnePlus 2 though, like the Nokia N1 before it, isn't doing any of this, it hasn't got support for up to 100w, it doesn’t transfer data at the blisteringly fast 10gbps (USB 3.1 Gen2) or 5gbps (USB3.0/3.1 Gen1), no the USB-C port on the OnePlus 2 is USB2 based, that’s right 480mbps, same as microUSB in ph...

Sony Smartwatch 2 SW2 Review

Launched in the tail end of 2013, the Sony Smartwatch 2 (SW2) is not Sony's most recent wearable, but it's the last in Sony's line of Smartwatches running their own OS. The SW2 is a relatively pretty Smartwatch with a fair few bugs that keeps it from being great. Scratchy scratch number one Utilising an aluminium frame, a "scratch resistant" glass  and a metal strap the SW2 has all the pieces of the puzzle on paper to make it a gorgeous piece of hardware, unfortunately Sony got to the last hurdle and stumbled, they used capacitive navigation buttons which mimic Android's old style ones, before Android 4.0 ICS, the power button on the side was as mushy as all heck and lastly, the scratch proof glass isn't all that scratch proof.
