THIS WEEK IN TECH


Mobile World Congress, being the highlight of this week, and one of the most important weeks for all the mobile and technology lovers out there to come and see what technology has in store for us in the future is unfortunately, over and we will all have to wait until next year to see MWC again. We have seen many new releases, and awesome gadgets being shown at MWC this year and shall keep you informed as they become available to the public and as soon as more details are leaked.

iPhone Nano, is a no no, iPhone Giga, is a yes yes. Coming from an anonymous apple executive, apple are considering making a cheaper version with lower specs, but not a smaller iPhone. The big iPhone is supposedly enlarging the screen from 3.5 inches to 4. On the other hand, the iPad 3 is rumoured to get a smaller display than the current iPad 2 with a prediction of the device to have a display somewhere between the size of the current iPhone and the current iPad with a resolution of 2048x1536 to meet the ‘retina display’ requirements. This might just be the bigger version of the iPod Touch or iPhone which is soon to be coming out, and might have been mistaken for the next iPad, but then again, it could all be a fad as these are all just rumours.

Sony Ericsson took a stand and rose to a higher platform, and possibly, maybe just, have changed the mobile gaming revolution by revealing the Xperia Play to us, a android powered device bringing PlayStation gaming to the mobile. Sony also released three other Android smartphones namely the Xperia Pro, Xperia Neo and the Xperia Arc.



LG released a great line of products, showering us with amazing new products such as the Optimus Pad tablet device and the Optimus 3D mobile smartphone. Being the leader and revolutionary ignitor of the mobile market to develop (and presumably release) a 3D capable phone. While the Optimus 3D phone is able to generate 3D glasses-free, it is a disappointment to see that the Optimus Pad cannot and will require glasses, not that it would be of much use to many people besides rarely watching a 3D movie on a mobile device. Still, a great leap forward from LG, leaving many behind and with a lot to catch up on, hear that HTC?

HTC showed off 6 new upcoming devices that will soon be on sale along with the rest of their range. Five of which are phones, three being upgraded versions of previous phones and two new additions to a new low-end category. HTC also released their first tablet, being HTC’s focal point and major, but not so impressive release this year. All of the devices with a rumoured release date of April the 18th.

Samsung wowed us with, but failed at hiding from us their Galaxy S II which is supposed to be released this month (unconfirmed). The Samsung Galaxy Tab joins it, stealing some specs which were rumoured to be on the Galaxy S II but rendered false, the Tab powered with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor, Honeycomb and dual cameras. Joining HTC at making some budget phones with lower specs, Samsung also announced the Galaxy Gio, Galaxy Fit, Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Mini too. Not only have we seen this huge line of products, we’ve seen much more from Samsung this year including devices such as the Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 and the Galaxy S 4G. Quality as well as quantity from Samsung this year.

Should People consider a mid-range phone for their next upgrade?

2013 has been a bit of an odd year,for Smartphones that is, Every year we are basically conditioned to believe that we want the biggest and best phones that are available at that time, but that's actually changing,This year we have seen OEM's create "mini" versions of their phones, and for once, They.Don't.Suck This, is the Galaxy S4 Mini, From Samsung, it doesn't have the most mind-blowing specs , its a dual-core Snapdragon 400 (Krait 300) , it's got an 8MP camera from the Galaxy S III, it's pretty thin and pretty light, it's got a 4.3" qHD (960x540)  Super AMOLED screen, also the Design of the Galaxy S4 and some other stuff. And guess what, it's doesn't lag,and the Minor bits of lag that are there are Touchwiz based,which are being remedied as we speak, same as the Larger Galaxy S4, which ad software glitches which caused it to lag, they are being ironed out as we speak. And yes, the Screen might not be HD, but it kinda does...

Why I'm not a fan of the OnePlus 2

Photo credit from GSMArena To those that Follow me on twitter it's no surprise to you that I was very underwhelmed with the OnePlus 2, but it's hard to explain why in 140 Characters, so here I'm going to expand a bit more on the things I’m not a fan of and why. First up is the USB-C Port. Now as we already know, USB-C the Port isn’t the same as USB-C W/USB3.1, the Damn USB-C, it's there,but not quite there. latter is the all singing all dancing version of USB-C, nothing has this yet (the closest we have so far is the new MacBook and Chromebook Pixel, that use most of this, except at USB3 speeds, or what has retroactively been called, USB3.1 Gen1). The OnePlus 2 though, like the Nokia N1 before it, isn't doing any of this, it hasn't got support for up to 100w, it doesn’t transfer data at the blisteringly fast 10gbps (USB 3.1 Gen2) or 5gbps (USB3.0/3.1 Gen1), no the USB-C port on the OnePlus 2 is USB2 based, that’s right 480mbps, same as microUSB in ph...

Sony Smartwatch 2 SW2 Review

Launched in the tail end of 2013, the Sony Smartwatch 2 (SW2) is not Sony's most recent wearable, but it's the last in Sony's line of Smartwatches running their own OS. The SW2 is a relatively pretty Smartwatch with a fair few bugs that keeps it from being great. Scratchy scratch number one Utilising an aluminium frame, a "scratch resistant" glass  and a metal strap the SW2 has all the pieces of the puzzle on paper to make it a gorgeous piece of hardware, unfortunately Sony got to the last hurdle and stumbled, they used capacitive navigation buttons which mimic Android's old style ones, before Android 4.0 ICS, the power button on the side was as mushy as all heck and lastly, the scratch proof glass isn't all that scratch proof. The Aluminium frame is anodised black, and chamferred  on the top edges, and just like every device that has ever been chamferred and polished, it scratches and dings so quickly I've forgotten what mine looks like witho...
